A LIGHT FILLED CANAL HOUSE IN AMSTERDAM

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2019 will be filled with love, peace and happiness. I took a break as you might have noticed. In the first place to spend the holidays with my family. But I also needed some time off from blogging. The blogging world has changed a lot since I began in 2007. Blogs has become more professional which is not a bad thing but I do miss the blogging community which was once there. Last year I often questioned myself why am I still spending so much time on this blog. The community sense is no longer there, the interaction with my readers which I loved is also almost gone (90% of the comments I get is spam), I hardly make any money from my blog (the money generated from advertising does not cover the hosting costs and the time I put in). So the big question is: to blog or not to blog? I have to find back the joy and in order to do so I might need to make some changes. Perhaps I have to be more active on social media as there is more interaction or maybe I need to change the content. I will be thinking on how to bring back the joy of blogging in the coming months and will keep you updated on the process! Today a beautiful, light filled canal house in Amsterdam renovated by .

THE DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS

holidaydiy-110

One more day to go until Christmas! On this day I like to prepare the Christmas table and go into our garden to find natural Christmas table decorations. These are beautiful, inexpensive and environmental friendly! I use ilex and branches from the bay leaf tree to create a centerpiece (just place the branches casually on the middle of the table and voila, you have a ‘center piece’) and I stick rosemary twigs with some natural rope on linen napkins. If you want more Christmas inspiration to get in the festive mood: I recently contributed to a post about Christmas decorations on and this post is full of Christmas inspiration. You can find the post . Have a wonderful Christmas!

A PERFECT FAMILY VACATION RENTAL IN BYRON BAY

The Magnolia House is quintessential Byron design: pure, relaxed and sophisticated. This vacation rental, which sleeps up to 8 guests, is situated on one of Byron’s tightly held laneways and hidden behind a vibrant ficus hedge, a pair of vintage salvaged doors open to reveal a magnificent home designed for family, for entertaining and for play. From the living room, imposing floor to ceiling steel doors retract fully to a north-facing covered veranda and outdoor eating area. The effect is to create a vast interior-exterior space. Outside a manicured lawn extends the living area to the swimming pool and spa. An antique brick wall encloses the property and defines the shape of its private world. Magnolia House is designed for family and friends and provides ample spaces for children and parents to join together or disappear into. Along with the living and dining area downstairs, there’s a media room, a study and two guest powder rooms. Upstairs has four bedrooms – three queens, a central bathroom and a spacious parent’s retreat with king bed, bath area, separate ensuite and lounge. You can find more information about rates & bookings .

A FRENCH LOFT WITH STUNNING PARIS ROOFTOP VIEW

There is a lot to like about this spacious two bedroom loft but my two favorite things are the high windows and the stunning view over the rooftops of Paris. The interior has been designed by . The architectural point was to preserve the basic structure of the place by emphasizing the concrete in some places and playing on these darker shades of gray.

A BEAUTIFUL NEW ENGLAND INSPIRED HOME IN MAINE, USA

This beautiful New England inspired house in Maine, USA, is the home of sculptor Anthony Esteves and his wife and son. The traditional technique shou sugi and a self-made Japanese-style fermented paint made out of soot has been used for the black exterior of the building. The place is small (55m2 / 600 square feet) and the interior is modest yet cosy. There is just something special about the simple aesthetic that is warm and soothing.

A MIX OF TRADITION & MODERN AESTHETICS ON PAROS

This beautiful home is situated on Paros, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. The house has some striking features, the stunning sea and harbour view being the most obvious one. But there is also the natural color and material palette which is simple yet warm. Greek studio is responsible for the design. Their aim was to ensure the simplicity of the region’s architecture and respect the historical and environmental context of the building and its surroundings. Beige cement mortar has been used on the walls and floors which combines beautifully with the timber furnishings and doors. The result is a warm and calming atmosphere throughout the entire home.

A MODERN SHAKER KITCHEN IN AN OLD UK CATTLE SHED

Today’s post features a kitchen made and designed by UK kitchen & furniture manufacturer . The kitchen is stunning but what about that beautiful building which used to be an old cattle shed in North Norlfolk, UK! deVOL about this kitchen: “This deVOL Shaker Kitchen is on a big scale, yet it still seems to feel comfortable and homely and has the clever ability to feel both industrial and a little bit country chic. The big extraction unit sits perfectly next to the very domesticated Smeg Victoria range cooker and the grand brass pot filler. It’s the mix of concrete floors, brick walls and soft tones in the wooden worktops and copper sink that make this kitchen such a clever combination. We absolutely love the original artworks that were propped up around the room, these huge landscapes really added to the feeling of being in the wilds near the sea.”
